October 9, 2020

Hello UA Parents,

Our first full week of October is now in the books. It started with World Teacher Day on Monday, definitely the highlight of my week as Ms. MacLeod and I went around the school to recognize each of our wonderful UA teachers in front of their students and presented them with a chocolate apple. Our students were very appreciative of their teachers as well.

Thank you to everyone for following our safety protocols that are in place and conducting the daily health check with your students. As we move further into the fall season the likelihood of students getting a cold or flu increases. Please continue to instill good habits in your children, washing their hands regularly, and staying home when feeling sick are the best ways for us to keep our school community and our families healthy.

As I look outside my office window the rain is coming down pretty hard. The days will be getting shorter and the weather will be getting more inclement. This means a reminder is in order that we all need to drive with extra care and caution around the school at drop-off and pick-up. Take the extra second to look out for pedestrians.

Finally, I would like to bring to everyone’s attention a change to the calendar. Our Interim Reports for Gr. 6 to Gr. 11 will be posted on MySchool on October 22. The change to the calendar is that we will be moving up our Parent-Teacher interviews from early December to the evening of Wednesday, October 28, and the afternoon of Thursday, October 29. Students will have early dismissal on October 29. We will be sending out a more detailed email next week specifically to address the Interim Reports and the Parent-Teacher interviews.

I hope everyone has plans to enjoy the holiday long weekend. I know all of the staff here at UA are thankful for this great community as well as the extra day of rest on Monday. I feel fortunate in that I will get to see some of my family this weekend and enjoy some yummy seasonal food. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Yours in education,
Mr. Slinger
