Head of School’s Weekly Message
September 7, 2018
Dear Urban Academy Families,
We had a wonderful school opening this week, welcoming our returning students back to school and getting to know all of the new ones. Thank you for working through the routines with your child, uniform, drop-off and pick-up and getting schedules organized. We are spending a fair amount of time on orientation this year with so many new classes and additional students. Thank you for taking the time to go over the Handbooks sent home with your child as they adjust to new classes, perhaps a different campus and their changing academic expectations.
Meet the Teacher Nights are coming up next week – Tuesday evening at Robson and Wednesday at Uptown. Robson families, please go straight to your child’s classroom for 6:30pm where teachers will have materials prepared for you. At Uptown, the format is similar however, we will send specifics out to our parents early next week about how the evening will work. Several of our Uptown teachers teach a number of courses and we have developed a method to allow parents of younger students to spend time with the homeroom teacher as well as the teachers teaching a range of middle and senior courses.
Uptown clubs and co-curricular activities are getting started and we will provide an outline at the Uptown Meet the Teacher evening. Robson clubs will get underway in October.
We have attached a copy of the 2018-2019 school calendar for you. The dates and activities for the year are outlined and we would encourage you to keep the calendar close to hand. In September we are already preparing for a number of school activities. Coming up fairly quickly for our students will be the Whole School Assembly and Picture Day, both of which require formal uniform so please mark your calendar for those events.
Thank you for a wonderful first week back working with your children. Have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
