Dear Urban Academy Families,

Thank you to our parents who joined us for the Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday at Queens Ave United Church. The middle school students took the lead on the music and poetry and one of our graduates this year was our speaker. Alice Pinheiro spoke on valuing peace in our communities. Younger students laid the wreath and learned how to conduct themselves in a formal assembly on a topic that we take very seriously.

The outline of how we will handle tickets for our Winter Concert is included in this email. Tickets are now on sale. We are at the Massey Theatre this year and it is a much larger venue. It is however, not a venue for small children to sit through the concert. We are at this venue to accommodate our growing community and it should be a wonderful experience for our students who have worked hard on the program. Please go through the attached information so that you are prepared for the evening and can enjoy yourselves. We will offer free childcare for little ones at the Uptown campus as it is next door to Massey Theatre. Directions and a map for parents of younger children who have never been to Uptown will be provided in advance so that you are able to access the site easily if you require childcare.

Please note the information below on our upcoming Community AGM (November 20). Sarah Cepeliauskas has stepped down from the Board of Directors as of this year’s Society AGM. Thank you for your service to our community Sarah, we will miss you on the Board, but I know you will continue to be an active member of our community.

Every year, in the build-up to our annual fundraising gala, we reach out to families and businesses in our community to collect items for the silent and live auction portions of our event. This year, at our Hats Off Gala, the focus is on experiences. From fun activities and family experiences to weekends away and tickets to sporting or cultural events, any live or silent auction item that you are able to generously donate will be turned into funds to further enhance the learning experiences and outcomes of our students. Specifically, funds raised at this year’s gala will help us to complete and furnish many of the rooms in our new facility. If you, or someone or company you know, are able to donate an item to include in the auction, please complete the charitable donation form attached to this email and return it with the item to the Administration Office at either campus. On behalf of our students, thank you for your support!

Have an enjoyable weekend.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
