Head of School’s Weekly Message

November 16, 2018

Dear Urban Academy Families,

Our students will be practicing a lock down drill on Monday morning at Robson from 9:45am to 10:45am and at Uptown from 11:15am to 12:15pm. Students will not be able to leave the property and we cannot admit guests. If your child is late, we will not be able to admit you so please note this time. This is an important drill for our students and our staff.

Please plan to join us this coming Tuesday evening at the Uptown campus for the community AGM. The Board of Directors will be sharing their progress and work over the last year and presenting the audited financial statements. That material was provided to our community electronically yesterday and hard copies will be available at the meeting as well. Refreshments will be provided at 6:45pm, so join us a few minutes early to be able to connect with other families and community members and hear the plans for our new school.

The first term is coming to an end and staff are beginning to prepare report cards for students. Report cards will be issued on December 5 and parent-teacher interviews will be held December 6 and December 7. We have had the practice of hosting all of the interviews, Junior and Senior schools, at Robson. We have reached the point where we no longer all fit at Robson and the lack of space does not allow for privacy during discussions about your child’s progress. This term, Robson teachers will meet with Robson parents at the Robson Campus on those two days and Uptown parents will meet with Uptown parents during that same time at the Uptown Campus. As in the past you will be able to book interview times online. There are a few situations where a teacher teaches Junior students for an elective and Senior students for a core academic course. We will be going out one day early for Grade 7-12 academic courses so that parents of those students can book those interviews and get a spot with teachers in order to have the information required for their students. The process to book interviews will be available on November 21 for Grade 7-12 parents and November 22 for JK-Grade 6 parents. There will be plenty of spots for everyone. Please set time aside to come in and meet with your child’s teacher to go over the first term’s learning and progress.

Please plan to join us for our November 28 Parent Education Evening at Uptown: “Raising Digitally Responsible Youth”. Information is provided in this email and the evite is out for your response. On our last community survey parents indicated very strongly that they would value an opportunity like this and this topic, in particular, was of interest to you. I think you will find it informative and enjoyable. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a relaxing weekend.
