Head of School’s Weekly Message
November 10, 2017
Dear Urban Academy Families,
We had an enjoyable and thoughtful Remembrance Day assembly today at Queens Ave United Church with our whole school in attendance. A number of parents were able to join us as well. Our students from the Uptown campus took the lead on both Drama and Music selections that honoured those who made the sacrifice for all of us and the value we place upon peace in Canada. Elizabeth Fletcher, a parent in our community, also presented on memorials sites in France she has visited that have special meaning for their family and for all Canadians.
You will have received your materials via email this week in preparation for our upcoming Community AGM next Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 at Uptown. The Annual Report and audited financials are provided ahead of time so that community members can consider any questions that they may have as the Board shares the work of the last year and the future plans for the school. Please plan to join us that evening. It is an opportunity to learn about the Board’s Strategic Plan for 2018-2023 as well as to hear from the lead architect for our new school, Paul Grant, who will update us on the progress of the project.
You will note in this edition of the Friday email that tickets for the Winter Concert at the Anvil Centre will be made available. Mrs. McNamara at the Robson site will organize and sell the tickets for our community. It is necessary to have a ticket to attend so please make your plans early for this event. It is a lovely theatre; a perfect venue for our performance and we want to ensure that you have a seat to enjoy your child’s work up on the stage.
If you have driven down Braid Street lately, you will see steady change on that site. Foundations are going in and walls are going up! The team is moving along at a good pace and we are pleased with the progress being made.
Have an enjoyable weekend.
