Dear Urban Academy Families,

We have had a full week at school, as we start to undertake the year end events. Our graduates and their guests are celebrating this weekend with a dinner dance to acknowledge their time at Urban Academy and their final year. We have planned a lovely evening for them and their guests. We will miss them and wish them the very best. Once again, our graduating students have all been accepted to a number of post-secondary institutions and were able to select their top choice. They are well-prepared to be successful. Now it is on to exams and Commencement in June!

This week our Leadership Students in the middle school hosted their counterparts from Southpointe School. We are part of many ISABC initiatives with our sister schools and the Leadership program for middle school students is one that is particularly enjoyable and enriching for our students. UA students toured their Southpointe guests, planned some activities to share with them and had good discussion on the opportunities for learning that they had this year through the training program and development of projects. They discovered many things that both groups and schools have in common.

You will note a message in this email to our families who are hoping for Out of School Care this summer. We originally expected families to sign up for whole weeks of care and programming. We wanted to avoid the disappointment many experienced last year when there were just no drop-in or short-term spots available. However, many families have let us know that they really do need care but cannot commit to the full five days each week. We will reduce the expectation to three or four days per week in order to accommodate those families and will contact the original group to see if their commitment requires adjusting. We want to be responsive to the care that is required, but deliver a program that can ensure that there are staffed spots for kids who need it so families can count on that support.

Have an enjoyable weekend and we will see everyone on Monday.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
