Head of School’s Weekly Message

January 12, 2018

Dear Urban Academy Families,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope you had an enjoyable and restful break. We are looking forward to a busy term, full of learning. Our middle school students are headed to a winter Leadership Camp, we have a guest artist in residence working in clay medium at Uptown, dance instruction at Robson and the next term of clubs and athletics will soon be underway. This portion of the school year is also a heavy one for academic goals and outcomes as well. There are some semestered courses for our Senior students coming to an end and new ones beginning.

In this email you will see an invitation from your Board of Directors to their first Community Leadership Evening. We want our parent community to learn about all of the wonderful opportunities there are to become involved in the school in various capacities; committees, Board work, volunteering – all of which can complete your parent participation hours. Please plan to join us on February 6, a great chance to meet other parents and find your perfect spot to serve in our community.

Our school construction project is coming along well. The gym floor was poured over the holidays and the whole building is taking shape. The huge trusses will be delivered in February. We are starting to turn our attention to the work required for the move and the adjustments required for moving to our new site. There is lots to plan for and to undertake in this spring term but it is exciting work!

Our new families (and students entering JK and Kindergarten) registered for next year have their Consolidated Activity Fee due on Monday and our returning families will receive their package in the next couple of weeks for their deadline of February 28 to secure their spot. We have several classes that are already full and families continue to apply so please watch for that and put the pertinent date that relates to your family on your calendar.

Have a wonderful weekend. See everyone on Monday morning.
