Head of School’s Weekly Message
February 8, 2018
Dear Urban Academy Families,
Thank you for a wonderful week working with your children. Field study is in full swing with a number of excellent learning opportunities planned for students at every level. February is also the month we host Science Expo at Uptown so please mark your calendars to join us for that event on the afternoon of February 20th.
Our design team for the new school, Grant Architecture Studio, spent a day with our teachers on Wednesday of this week, going over the internal design and answering questions. We are starting to turn our attention to the move, what we take with us, what will be disposed of and how classrooms are configured in the new school. This will be quite a change as we have always worked in charming classrooms but not ones that were purpose-built for children and instruction. Since the original design consultation took place, we have a few new teachers as well and they have not had a chance to be part of learning how the new space will work. It was a wonderful day, full of lots of discussion, excitement and questions. A big thank you to the design team who continue to take extra time and attention to our project even though we are now in the construction phase. Next week I will be sending a message out to our families with some specifics on where we are with enrollment and grade configuration plans for September. The work in Admissions is brisk and there is a lot of interest in our school.
The ISABC Professional Day is tomorrow and is being held at Collingwood School in West Vancouver. Our teachers always look forward to being able to connect with colleagues from other schools, learn about new practice in their particular field and bring back some excellent ideas for the classroom. Two UA teachers are providing sessions; Elyse Cochrane and Patricia Brooke, so UA is well- represented.
Have a wonderful long weekend with your children and enjoy Family Day.
