Head of School’s Weekly Message

June 8, 2018

Dear Urban Academy Families,

This week we enjoyed meeting with all of our new Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten families for an orientation to Urban Academy. We have 39 new students to welcome in those two classes alone so there are many new families to get to know and to share the school’s expectations with as we prepare for September. The Board will also host a New Parents’ Reception in September for all of our new parents across all of the grades and we are looking forward to that experience. It is always a pleasure to get to know our new families as they become part of the community.

Our Out of School Care program is busy preparing for the summer. The summer program available for students has gone out to current and new families. If you require care for any of the days or weeks over the summer please register as soon as possible so that we can staff the program accordingly and ensure that the students receive as much programming as possible, geared for their ages, over their summer holidays. Our ECE program for JK and K students is near capacity, but there is still space in our program for 6-11 year olds. Please have a look at the information attached to this email.
Our yearbook is completed and off to be published. We anticipate providing students with their copy on June 19. Teachers at Robson will hand out yearbooks to students to take home. At Uptown we always provide time for the older students to get together and sign each other’s books on the day it is handed out.

Our elementary students enjoyed Camp Cheakamus this week and middle school students are at Strathcona Park Lodge next week, both excellent camps for young people. We will make some changes to camp plans for our students going forward for 2019. I will outline that for our families in an email message next week. We will be adjusting age groups who go to camp and will be taking advantage of some amazing opportunities that have come our way for our students.
Have a lovely weekend.
