Dear Urban Academy Families,

We have had an excellent week of learning and our students are looking forward to their Easter weekend at home. Our staff are engaged in Professional Development on Thursday focused on; the technology in the new building that is available to us as well as the spring activities that we will put into place in the remaining weeks in a new school environment. For those families who require summer OOSC, please sign up as quickly as you are able to form your plans. The spots go quickly and we only have about 9 full weeks of instruction left in our school year.

There is construction on Rousseau Street that has nothing whatsoever to do with our school. Metro Vancouver has a project at the end of the street, working on water mains, that has closed many of the side streets. We hope that they are done soon. In addition, apparently there is a sidewalk project on the go, also not ours. It does add to the work of a safe drop-off and we have no influence whatsoever on the pace of these projects. Please do not park (or stop) on Rousseau where it says no parking and come into the school. Please go through the parkade and drop your child off safely and then exit out on to Braid Street. JK and K families can use their parking pass for drop-off and pick-up, but it is dangerous for your Grade 1-12 child to be navigating a busy street when a safe parkade drop-off is available.

Camp information for Grades 6 and 7 students, bound for Strathcona, and Grade 4 and 5 students, headed to Camp Elphinstone, will be out to families soon. These are both amazing experiences for our students from experienced camps who host wonderful learning programs. Our teaching staff are looking forward to taking the students to camp.

A few parents have offered to purchase microwaves for student lunches. We have moved away from the use of microwaves at lunch time for students. As we learned in our final days at both Robson and Uptown, there were so many students who wanted to use the microwaves available, (and while there were several) not everyone could get their lunch warmed up and consumed within the lunch hour, making play time a problem for them. With so many more students this is just not possible anymore. We do encourage the use of a thermos if you wish to send something hot for lunchtime.

Enjoy the holiday weekend with your family. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
