Head of School’s Weekly Email

Dear Urban Academy Families,

Thank you for joining us for Parent Teacher Interviews. Staff have worked hard to ensure that assessments were completed that accurately reflected the growth of students over the term. We are looking forward to celebrating Honour Roll next week at Uptown for our grade 6-12 students and we will also be recognizing the first Math contest results of the year in intermediate and middle school as well. Our students did exceptionally well.

Students from Uptown competed at a STEM challenge at Kwantlen Polytechnic University this fall and the results are out. They did very well and the results of all of the schools participating along with the rankings can be seen at Every other school there is considerably larger than UA. Thank you, Ms. Herman, for your work with our students and for developing a program our students can excel in.

Senior students attended the Order of Canada ceremonies at UBC at the Chan Theatre this week which was both interesting and educational. Our students met the new inductees and we were able to have our students tour the UBC campus that day as well. It was a good opportunity for students to visit a facility that they may apply to as a student.

Our Grade 1-5 students enjoyed a field trip today to see the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at Carousel Theatre on Granville Island. Grade 6-12 students also went on a field trip today – they attended a production of the Nutcracker at Michael J Fox Theatre in Burnaby, which included one of our own students, Vienna McKenzie, dancing in the production.

We are SOLD OUT for Winter Concert! I hope all families have their tickets – we have been reaching out to individuals and urging those who had not bought tickets to ensure that they could attend. It should be a great event and the students are looking forward to performing for you.

Have an enjoyable weekend. See you on Monday.
