Head of School’s Weekly Message
November 30, 2019
Dear Urban Academy Families,
Thank you for a wonderful week – so much on the go on every front. Our school will look quite festive next week when you return, with the Christmas tree up and the beginnings of decorations in classrooms and hallways. Our PAX is hosting Breakfast with Santa on Sunday and the little ones will enjoy that. Please take a tag off the tree and provide support to a needy family. It is most appreciated and necessary for some families in our community. This same weekend is the next stage of Kindergarten Admissions with a full morning of assessment for the Kindergarten applicants for September. It will be a full day of assessments of children for September enrollment. Once the New Year comes, we move on to JK and Grade 1 to 12 applications and assessments.
We are preparing for the Winter Concerts. JK and K will have a concert for their families in our own theatre on December 9. They are welcome to join us in the audience at the full concert at the Massey on December 11. We will adjust dress rehearsal plans at the Massey this year. Only the cast of “Frozen” will attend for technical and dress rehearsal at the theatre on Tuesday, December 10 – it will be a full day of dress rehearsal. Those students in “Frozen” will be dismissed at 4:00pm from the Massey Theatre on December 10, and parents will need to pick up cast members from the Massey at that time. The younger students who are appearing in their class performances and are not in the cast of “Frozen” will not attend dress rehearsal at Massey. We will rehearse here in our own facility. We will all then meet at the theatre on December 11 for the full production. The outline below is included so that you can plan ahead. Please ensure that your child has had something to eat before the production. Our families look forward to the Massey production and small children are not able to sit through the performance; we are happy to mind them while you enjoy the show with free childminding available for both the JK/K and the Massey Theatre productions.

Thank you to all our families who have contributed to our Annual Appeal. We have topped the $99,000 mark! This provides wonderful additions to our classroom resources and our ability to fit out the school for a growing enrollment. Thank you for your generosity and supporting our school.
Have a wonderful weekend. We look forward to seeing all of you on Monday morning.
