Dear Urban Academy Families,

Another week of change in BC! It sounds as though further announcements on lifting the pandemic restrictions will come after the long weekend so all of these shifts in practice have an impact on schools as well. As noted in your email from me yesterday, greater clarity for schools is coming. For now, we proceed with a robust eLearning program for our students and I hope to be in touch with further information at some point next week regarding how we will introduce re-rentry.

Friday, May 22 is a scheduled Professional Day. Our school is moving to a new school information, attendance, enrolment and report card system next year called MySchool: teachers will be in-serviced on this system on May 22. Zoom classes, Google Classroom and Seesaw posts will not take place that day.

I have attached the 2020-21 school calendar and the shape of statutory and school breaks in the 2021-22 calendar for you. You will note that the Back to School BBQ will not be happening due to the restrictions in place on large gatherings, but an opportunity on Thursday, September 3 will be scheduled to allow families to see class lists and meet their teachers in grade groups. This will also allow you to meet Mr. Slinger in a smaller setting as well. The rest of the calendar is going to stay as is for now. Only time will tell as we move through the summer and early fall regarding the scheduling of school events and meetings involving larger groups. For now, we will leave the activities scheduled as they are and if adjustments need to be made or specific direction is provided by the Ministries of Health and Education, then UA will comply and adjust.

Registration for summer OOSC is open, please book your spot using the attached form. Next Friday we will get the September OOSC registration started so that families can be assured that they have the care they will require for their children. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather and take care.

Head of School
