June 5, 2020

Dear Urban Academy Families,

We very much enjoyed welcoming our students back to school this week. We are working on year-end plans and preparing for report cards as students finish up the last couple of weeks. As noted last week, we are celebrating our Gala Art as an online year-end activity and fundraiser – even though the art could not make it to the Gala, it can still come to you! Please have a look at the message below from our Gala Chair, which highlights how to access the online auction and when student art work is available for bidding.

The complexities of the last three months have slowed many things down, including the final details of staffing but we are now at the place where I can share the complement of instructional staff who will be joining us for September. I have also noted a few staff that will not be back so that you are able to reach out and say goodbye before the last day of June. I have included the whole teaching staff – we are growing as a school, so we added several new teachers again this year, especially in the middle and senior school academic areas. This is an exciting time for the school as we welcome many new families and staff. Please take a moment to go through the attachment and review our growing UA instructional team. We wish our departing colleagues well and are very grateful for their service and dedication to UA, and we look forward to getting to know the new members of staff as we plan together for September.

For our Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten families, parking passes for drop-off and pickup in the back parking lot are on sale as of today at the Administration Office. The cost of parking for the year is due in full at the time of issue and is non-refundable. We have changed the colour of our parking passes this year so that they are distinguishable from last year’s old passes. The drop-off time is ten minutes, in order to facilitate our families coming and going and be a respectful neighbour for our community. Please complete the attached form and return it to Mrs. McNamara at m.mcnamara@urbanacademy.ca so you can get your pass secured without coming into the building.

We have surveyed our Tri-Cities and Burnaby bus users to see what their needs are for next year. We are now asking all our families to see what the interest is for both morning and afternoon bus service through Burnaby (East Van) and the Tri-Cities. Those are the two areas we would offer the bus service in, should we get enough families interested to run routes. It would be wonderful to provide this service, both morning and afternoon, so if you are interested please complete the attached form and return it to Ms. Crowley at ms.crowley@urbanacademy.ca by Friday, June 19 to let us know so that we can plan for September.

Enjoy the weekend.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
Head of School
