Dear Urban Academy Families,

It has been a wonderful week, students were pleased to take their report cards home and we always enjoy meeting with parents to discuss the students’ progress. Our Junior and Senior basketball teams are getting started. As we know, basketball is a tough sport to make a start in and our kids are learning a lot as many play many teams for the first time and compete for the first time, mostly against teams who went through their beginning program development some time ago. Our Junior team played Fraser Academy this week (a close game) and won against them by one exciting point! Other clubs and co-curricular opportunities abound, and our intermediate students are learning about Ultimate Frisbee from an experienced coach. They are having fun with that and will be ready to compete in the upcoming terms.

Thank you to PAX for hosting a wonderful Breakfast with Santa last Saturday. Our guests enjoyed themselves and it was a lovely family event. PAX has taken a lead this year in introducing some different family-oriented activities in our new school. The results certainly demonstrate that our close-knit and strong community feelings are here with us at Rousseau Street just as they were in our old locations! Families have enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the next activities. I think we will see some new UA traditions start to establish themselves in our school.

Our Gala Committee is hard at work and will have Early Bird tickets on sale at the school campus and the Massey Theatre ahead of both Winter Concert performances. Their first information bulletin on the plans and the tickets is part of this email. Please have a look and put the Gala in your spring calendar. Gala is also committed to an enjoyable community event that supports the development of our school community.

We are making plans for the Christmas closure based on the registrants we have for OOSC. The way the days fall this year many families do not require care. At this point we anticipate running OOSC on December 30 and 31, and January 2 and 3. If you require care and have not yet registered, please do so right away. The registration closes Tuesday, December 10. If you require childminding for either the JK/K concert on Monday night or the concert at the Massey on Thursday night, please sign up so that we can staff for your child’s care.

Each year the Board of Urban Academy provides the tuition fee schedules to the community in early December, and part of next week’s Friday email will be the information on the fees for next year, I will also remind our community of due dates for re-registration and fee payment at that time so that families can plan ahead.

We are excited about our concerts for our JK/K students on Monday evening at school and all other grades at Massey on Thursday evening. Students are working hard to provide a wonderful evening for you, celebrating the season and their learning. We look forward to sharing it with you.

See you at the Winter Concerts and have a lovely weekend.

Mrs. Cheryle Beaumont
