Head of School’s Weekly Message

September 15, 2017

Dear Urban Academy Families,

If you have driven down Braid St., you will notice that excavation of the project site is progressing steadily every day. We are in subdivision of the land parcels and are on to purchase of our own piece of the Braid St. site, which will be 466 Rousseau St. The site work is moving steadily along as our contractor is taking full advantage of the lovely fall weather. Things are moving along very well on every aspect of the project.

Thank you to our parents who were able to join us for Meet the Teacher Night. It is a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand from your child’s teacher the expectations for the classroom and courses they are enrolled in and the methods of assessment that will be used for student achievement. We very much enjoyed being able to connect directly with parents and we encourage all our families to stay in close contact with teachers on their child’s progress.
At Uptown, activities are being finalized for students with Music Club, Drama Club, Math Club and athletics all getting organized. We will be joining our ISABC and GVISSA sister schools to compete in volleyball, soccer and fall track events. These are the events the Athletic Directors of those organizations have set out for this term and Coach Twaites will be asking students to commit to teams this week. Thank you to the Laga family for the gift of our new school athletic uniforms with our new mascot and logo for our teams – they are wonderful! The students will look great at every event.

Clubs will start for Robson students in October. It is important to let the younger students get routines down and to get to know new classmates before they venture out to clubs. We usually run three terms of clubs at Robson, fall, winter and spring and the information on the fall term of clubs will be coming out soon.

We have started Opening Circle for our primary students at Robson – Kindergarten to grade 3. Students are learning to go to Circle, sing the school song and O Canada and work with their teachers on the topic of the day or the week. Just a reminder that we very much want parents to join us for Opening Circle. We do need to ask you to ensure that your cell phone is put away during that time. Thank you for helping us set that example for your child. They really enjoy seeing you there.

Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday.
