New facility building update

466 Rousseau Street in New Westminster has never looked so good. Through a partnership with WesGroup Properties, we are creating a space as dynamic as we are, to support our vision. Construction is moving along well on schedule and as of September 2018, all of the concrete has been poured. We are on schedule to move into the new facility this January, 2019 as planned.

Students are evolving.
Urban Academy is evolving too

We are proud to inject creativity and diversity into the learning environment. Each of our students learns differently but appreciate linking their classroom learning to real life experiences. We find that by connecting curriculum we, maximize retention, skill development, and cognition. Therefore, our new classrooms will have movable walls to open up learning space, and rooms will be wired for the most current technology.

There are designated learning spaces for junior kindergarten, kindergarten, intermediate, middle school, and secondary school students, designed to be conducive to their specific learning and development needs. With that in mind, there will also be multi-purpose learning spaces to facilitate inquiry based learning, cross-curricular education, cross-grade support, and collaboration. We're also including a large multipurpose space and community kitchen to allow school events to be held onsite.

The innovative difference

Our new school fuses arts and sciences with real-world applications and hands-on experiences. We are creating a dedicated technology hub, science lab, and a media learning centre, fully equipped with modern learning technologies. The library will be a fusion of a traditional library and a technology lab to offer an innovative space that is reflective of the real world. Even our lockers will be outfitted with technology charging stations.

The arts live here

We have spared no details in curating a space where students can discover the arts and unlock their creative potential. Creativity is multi-disciplinary, and the new campus will feature music areas, art rooms, and a performance space and theatre for audiences of up to 150 people.

The great outdoors

Physical education thrives at Urban Academy, and we encourage students to move and experience as part of a complete education. Innovative outdoor spaces, a full-sized gymnasium will accommodate physical activity, assemblies, and other multi-purpose needs. There will be a rooftop patio to be used for older students to create gardens and work on science projects. Glass walls will make the gym visible from every floor, and the new campus is also minutes from Hume Park, which hosts tennis courts, fields, a pool, water park, and a playground.
